Reserve a Good Seat

Refrain from taking seat close to lavatory as the area can be noisy.

Get Some Rest

Stay Hydrated

Food served on flight can dehydrate you, not providing the moisture your body needs.  It is best to eat a meal before boarding the plane and pack some healthy snacks to bring along; bananas, oranges, cherries, almonds, cucumber slices and plain nonfat greek yogurt. Aim to drink eight ounces of water for every hour you are in the air. If you must eat in flight meals refrain from eating meat since they are high in preservatives and additives. Abstain from liquor, carbonated beverages and choose tea over coffee.

Keep Yourself Occupied

Staying occupied is the most ideal approach to kill time and dreariness. If you are unable to fall asleep, stay occupied with a book (read a short story or a novel), music player or consider bringing a deck of cards to play with your travel companion. Bring books about your destination to find new places to check out or review your already planned itinerary. Check your flight online to see if in-flight entertainment is available and complimentary. Some flights may even have WiFi available. Just in case, consider downloading a few shows or movies to watch on your phone, tablet or laptop. Be sure to charge up your battery before you board and bring your headphones.

Freshen Up

Brushing your teeth, washing your face and getting freshened up will make you feel relaxed and under control. Take a break halfway through your flight to feel revived. Ensure you keep your toiletries handy to get easy access whenever you require them. Review security regulations with regards to the size and types of toiletries you are allowed to carry on.
